Townes

Some more sketchbook gig drawings, this time the late, great Townes Van Zandt in Manchester, May 1994.

  1. I love these kind of sketches. They always give a wonderful insight into the methodology of different techniques used by and the uniqueness of viewpoint and style of an artist.

  2. Thanks for all comments, Tim. I love seeing other people's sketchbook stuff so I thought there might be some interest in posting some of mine.
I used to think doing this sort of observational drawing was similar to doing commercial artwork, but after a few years of working commercially I realised they're very different---one is about using your skills and problem solving but for an audience, and the other is just to please oneself, and although there is definitely some crossovers the two activities are more separate than I initially thought they were.
I'll probably blather on about this sort of thing a bit more in future.
If I can't think of anything less boring of course!
